Festival of the Lost

As the mice follow a forest trail, they are slowly enveloped by a colorful mist, accompanied by the distant sound of a lone accordion. The trees disappear, the shadows dance—and when the mist clears, they find themselves in the middle of an enchanted festival.

Colorful flags hang between branches and makeshift poles, paper lanterns illuminate the gloom. Game and food stalls are scattered everywhere. The air is saturated with familiar scents, but there's something strange about them… an aroma too sweet, almost ethereal, as if evoking childhood memories that aren't yours.

Whispers come from an unseen audience, laughter emerges from every corner, ghostly figures wander through the festival, and the eyes of the surrounding animals glow with an unsettling light, as if reflecting the flame of the central bonfire, even when they're not looking at it. Here, all the animals can communicate clearly, as if something translates their thoughts into voice.

This is the Festival of the Lost, a traveling magical circus that travels aimlessly. Its troupe is made up of enchanted animals, all serving a single purpose: to gather new souls to the show.

Upon arrival, the mice are greeted by the Master of Ceremonies, who treats them as if they were new members of the troupe. He gives them freedom to explore the Festival, but warns with a wry smile: "To begin your first attraction... just step into the Ring."

But be careful: failing the challenges could chain their souls to the Festival forever.

This is a one-shot for Mausritter, inspired by brazilian june festivals and Hollow Knight's Grimm Troupe.

The module comes in both English and Brazilian Portuguese (Arraial dos Perdidos, em português), and you can buy the fully colored art pack if you’d like to bring all the characters to vivid life at your table.
